Narrative:
Inbound to lunken field, cincinnati, oh, reported 7 north, tower said report 3 mi final. Altitude was 2500-3000 MSL, slipped to get down to pattern. Keyed microphone to report 3 mi final, PIC used push-to-talk. I may have attempted to use hand microphone to report. Report was made but tower didn't respond. Other traffic was below us and had us in sight as he came from left base to final (discovered later in interview). Tower told him to go around and cleared us to land 20R, then chastised us for not reporting 3 mi final as he asked. The conflict might have been lessened if we had descended to pattern altitude further out. I believe the tower lost track of both of us. The report may have been garbled because both the PIC and I tried to talk at the same time.

Title: 2 SMA'S HAD AN NMAC IN THE TFC PATTERN AT LUK.
Narrative: INBOUND TO LUNKEN FIELD, CINCINNATI, OH, RPTED 7 N, TWR SAID RPT 3 MI FINAL. ALT WAS 2500-3000 MSL, SLIPPED TO GET DOWN TO PATTERN. KEYED MIKE TO RPT 3 MI FINAL, PIC USED PUSH-TO-TALK. I MAY HAVE ATTEMPTED TO USE HAND MIKE TO RPT. RPT WAS MADE BUT TWR DIDN'T RESPOND. OTHER TFC WAS BELOW US AND HAD US IN SIGHT AS HE CAME FROM L BASE TO FINAL (DISCOVERED LATER IN INTERVIEW). TWR TOLD HIM TO GAR AND CLRED US TO LAND 20R, THEN CHASTISED US FOR NOT RPTING 3 MI FINAL AS HE ASKED. THE CONFLICT MIGHT HAVE BEEN LESSENED IF WE HAD DSNDED TO PATTERN ALT FURTHER OUT. I BELIEVE THE TWR LOST TRACK OF BOTH OF US. THE RPT MAY HAVE BEEN GARBLED BECAUSE BOTH THE PIC AND I TRIED TO TALK AT THE SAME TIME.
