Narrative:
Just prior to V1 call, captain noticed the yellow gear door light flicker on. Takeoff was continued. Captain attempted to put the gear up with no success. The yellow gear door light was intermittently on and off. Gear was placed down with the emergency gear handle pulled to allow the gear doors to float on landing. At this time landing clearance was given and all indications appeared normal including the yellow gear door light out. We informed tower we would continue to taxi to the gate, given that everything appeared normal at that point, until we arrived at the gate and found out main gear doors were dragging down. Prior to the flight all system appeared normal including preflight inspections both interior and exterior. In retrospect it would have been best to assume the gear doors were dragging down after landing. Thus we should have stopped on the runway after landing and had our company or emergency vehicles check our condition before taxiing to the gate.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN MLG ACR ACFT RETURN LAND AFTER GEAR DOOR RETRACT PROB. THE MAIN GEAR DOORS WERE DAMAGED WHEN THEY HIT THE GND DURING LNDG AND TAXI.
Narrative: JUST PRIOR TO V1 CALL, CAPT NOTICED THE YELLOW GEAR DOOR LIGHT FLICKER ON. TKOF WAS CONTINUED. CAPT ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE GEAR UP WITH NO SUCCESS. THE YELLOW GEAR DOOR LIGHT WAS INTERMITTENTLY ON AND OFF. GEAR WAS PLACED DOWN WITH THE EMER GEAR HANDLE PULLED TO ALLOW THE GEAR DOORS TO FLOAT ON LNDG. AT THIS TIME LNDG CLRNC WAS GIVEN AND ALL INDICATIONS APPEARED NORMAL INCLUDING THE YELLOW GEAR DOOR LIGHT OUT. WE INFORMED TWR WE WOULD CONTINUE TO TAXI TO THE GATE, GIVEN THAT EVERYTHING APPEARED NORMAL AT THAT POINT, UNTIL WE ARRIVED AT THE GATE AND FOUND OUT MAIN GEAR DOORS WERE DRAGGING DOWN. PRIOR TO THE FLT ALL SYS APPEARED NORMAL INCLUDING PREFLT INSPECTIONS BOTH INTERIOR AND EXTERIOR. IN RETROSPECT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BEST TO ASSUME THE GEAR DOORS WERE DRAGGING DOWN AFTER LNDG. THUS WE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED ON THE RWY AFTER LNDG AND HAD OUR COMPANY OR EMER VEHICLES CHK OUR CONDITION BEFORE TAXIING TO THE GATE.
