Narrative:

Every once in a while, a person does something stupid. I qualified last tuesday. I departed lansing, mi, en route to grand ledge -- just a 7 mi trip -- to take the airplane in for its annual. I barely stabilized my altitude when it was time to enter the pattern for landing at grand ledge. Departure at lansing alerted me to an small aircraft in the pattern at grand ledge. I located the aircraft and kept it in sight. Since I was following it in downwind and there is no parallel taxiway at grand ledge, I extended my downwind to accommodate the small aircraft landing and clearing the runway. Unfortunately, the other pilot had other ideas and radioed, immediately after I announced that I was on final for runway 9 at grand ledge, that he would taxi down to the far end of the runway. At this point I should have executed a go around, or at least done a 720, since I was probably 3 mi from the end of the runway. I did neither. I was late delivering the airplane, so I proceeded to land on the runway with the small aircraft sitting on the far end of runway 9. The runway is 3200 ft long. I used only 900 ft of it to land. There wasn't any conflict -- but there could have been had anything gone awry. I have been instructing at this airport for more than 5 yrs. I know that the 'lcls' frequently do taxi down to the far end and let other aircraft land on the runway to expedite lndgs. I always tell my students never do this, it isn't safe -- and I did it. I doubt that anyone will report me for acting in an unsafe manner, but I feel that I did. I'm so embarrassed! One of the factors that entered in to my decision was the fact that I was late and someone was waiting to drive me back to lansing. The other is that I never really had everything stabilized before it was time to get into the 'landing mode.' I was rushed in my performance and didn't take time to think about my options. When I knew I was to be following another aircraft in the pattern, I should have slowed down immediately to accommodate the traffic. Then I would have had time to evaluate my situation and would have made a better decision.

Title: LIGHT TWIN LANDED ON AN OCCUPIED RWY AT AN UNCTLED ARPT.

Narrative: EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE, A PERSON DOES SOMETHING STUPID. I QUALIFIED LAST TUESDAY. I DEPARTED LANSING, MI, ENRTE TO GRAND LEDGE -- JUST A 7 MI TRIP -- TO TAKE THE AIRPLANE IN FOR ITS ANNUAL. I BARELY STABILIZED MY ALT WHEN IT WAS TIME TO ENTER THE PATTERN FOR LNDG AT GRAND LEDGE. DEP AT LANSING ALERTED ME TO AN SMA IN THE PATTERN AT GRAND LEDGE. I LOCATED THE ACFT AND KEPT IT IN SIGHT. SINCE I WAS FOLLOWING IT IN DOWNWIND AND THERE IS NO PARALLEL TXWY AT GRAND LEDGE, I EXTENDED MY DOWNWIND TO ACCOMMODATE THE SMA LNDG AND CLRING THE RWY. UNFORTUNATELY, THE OTHER PLT HAD OTHER IDEAS AND RADIOED, IMMEDIATELY AFTER I ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS ON FINAL FOR RWY 9 AT GRAND LEDGE, THAT HE WOULD TAXI DOWN TO THE FAR END OF THE RWY. AT THIS POINT I SHOULD HAVE EXECUTED A GAR, OR AT LEAST DONE A 720, SINCE I WAS PROBABLY 3 MI FROM THE END OF THE RWY. I DID NEITHER. I WAS LATE DELIVERING THE AIRPLANE, SO I PROCEEDED TO LAND ON THE RWY WITH THE SMA SITTING ON THE FAR END OF RWY 9. THE RWY IS 3200 FT LONG. I USED ONLY 900 FT OF IT TO LAND. THERE WASN'T ANY CONFLICT -- BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN HAD ANYTHING GONE AWRY. I HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTING AT THIS ARPT FOR MORE THAN 5 YRS. I KNOW THAT THE 'LCLS' FREQUENTLY DO TAXI DOWN TO THE FAR END AND LET OTHER ACFT LAND ON THE RWY TO EXPEDITE LNDGS. I ALWAYS TELL MY STUDENTS NEVER DO THIS, IT ISN'T SAFE -- AND I DID IT. I DOUBT THAT ANYONE WILL RPT ME FOR ACTING IN AN UNSAFE MANNER, BUT I FEEL THAT I DID. I'M SO EMBARRASSED! ONE OF THE FACTORS THAT ENTERED IN TO MY DECISION WAS THE FACT THAT I WAS LATE AND SOMEONE WAS WAITING TO DRIVE ME BACK TO LANSING. THE OTHER IS THAT I NEVER REALLY HAD EVERYTHING STABILIZED BEFORE IT WAS TIME TO GET INTO THE 'LNDG MODE.' I WAS RUSHED IN MY PERFORMANCE AND DIDN'T TAKE TIME TO THINK ABOUT MY OPTIONS. WHEN I KNEW I WAS TO BE FOLLOWING ANOTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN, I SHOULD HAVE SLOWED DOWN IMMEDIATELY TO ACCOMMODATE THE TFC. THEN I WOULD HAVE HAD TIME TO EVALUATE MY SIT AND WOULD HAVE MADE A BETTER DECISION.
