Narrative:

Problem - taxied past runway 28R hold short marker without clearance. Remained clear of runway 28R (did not enter runway). Factors - hold short marker is placed at least 100 yards from threshold of runway 28R; unfamiliar with airport; taxiing directly into morning sun along parallel taxiway for runway 28R. Discovered - ground control notified us that hold short marker was 100 yards behind us. Corrective actions - no actions were taken, we remained on taxiway well clear of runway, waiting for takeoff clearance. This occurrence I feel was caused mainly by the location of the hold short marker for runway 28R, being over 100 yards from runway threshold, very unusual, I have never seen this in 23 yrs of flying. Also, the bright morning sun and being unfamiliar with airport helped contribute to the incursion. The controller on ground control after notifying us of our mistake added that 'it happened all the time'!!!

Title: AN ACR FRTR CREW TAXIED OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINES.

Narrative: PROB - TAXIED PAST RWY 28R HOLD SHORT MARKER WITHOUT CLRNC. REMAINED CLR OF RWY 28R (DID NOT ENTER RWY). FACTORS - HOLD SHORT MARKER IS PLACED AT LEAST 100 YARDS FROM THRESHOLD OF RWY 28R; UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT; TAXIING DIRECTLY INTO MORNING SUN ALONG PARALLEL TXWY FOR RWY 28R. DISCOVERED - GND CTL NOTIFIED US THAT HOLD SHORT MARKER WAS 100 YARDS BEHIND US. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS - NO ACTIONS WERE TAKEN, WE REMAINED ON TXWY WELL CLEAR OF RWY, WAITING FOR TKOF CLRNC. THIS OCCURRENCE I FEEL WAS CAUSED MAINLY BY THE LOCATION OF THE HOLD SHORT MARKER FOR RWY 28R, BEING OVER 100 YARDS FROM RWY THRESHOLD, VERY UNUSUAL, I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS IN 23 YRS OF FLYING. ALSO, THE BRIGHT MORNING SUN AND BEING UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT HELPED CONTRIBUTE TO THE INCURSION. THE CTLR ON GND CTL AFTER NOTIFYING US OF OUR MISTAKE ADDED THAT 'IT HAPPENED ALL THE TIME'!!!
