Narrative:

We were #3 for takeoff at bwi for runway 28 and runway 33R was being used to recover commuter aircraft. We had the #1 engine running and had completed the taxi checklist. I told the first officer to start the #2 engine and shortly thereafter we were told to position and hold. As we were taxiing to position and hold, we were cleared for takeoff. The #2 engine was spooling up slowly so with that 2ND engine warmup time, I decided to clear the runway into the wide runway 28 throat area with 2 sharp right turns. I told the copilot to tell the tower that we wanted to clear the runway and when the tower asked why, the copilot said that we were clearing for a compressor stall when in fact he had mistaken the nosewheel scrubbing the asphalt for a compressor stall. I had decided to clear the runway for engine warmup time and an aircraft on final for runway 33R.

Title: LGT EXITS RWY TO ALLOW ENG WARMUP.

Narrative: WE WERE #3 FOR TKOF AT BWI FOR RWY 28 AND RWY 33R WAS BEING USED TO RECOVER COMMUTER ACFT. WE HAD THE #1 ENG RUNNING AND HAD COMPLETED THE TAXI CHKLIST. I TOLD THE FO TO START THE #2 ENG AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER WE WERE TOLD TO POS AND HOLD. AS WE WERE TAXIING TO POS AND HOLD, WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. THE #2 ENG WAS SPOOLING UP SLOWLY SO WITH THAT 2ND ENG WARMUP TIME, I DECIDED TO CLR THE RWY INTO THE WIDE RWY 28 THROAT AREA WITH 2 SHARP R TURNS. I TOLD THE COPLT TO TELL THE TWR THAT WE WANTED TO CLR THE RWY AND WHEN THE TWR ASKED WHY, THE COPLT SAID THAT WE WERE CLRING FOR A COMPRESSOR STALL WHEN IN FACT HE HAD MISTAKEN THE NOSEWHEEL SCRUBBING THE ASPHALT FOR A COMPRESSOR STALL. I HAD DECIDED TO CLR THE RWY FOR ENG WARMUP TIME AND AN ACFT ON FINAL FOR RWY 33R.
