Narrative:
Following a go around issued by the tower at san air carrier X being vectored for another approach. We were given a clearance to maintain 5000 ft and complied. While on the downwind portion of our vectors we received a GPWS 'terrain, terrain' and immediately applied full power and climbed to 6500 ft. At the same time we called san approach and advised them of our situation. I asked the MVA and he said 5000 ft, in that area. There is an area on the aera chart showing an elevation of 5000 ft. When I asked a second controller the MVA, he said 7000 ft. There was no conflict with other aircraft.
