Narrative:
We were flying a piper arrow and on left downwind leg where the student did his gump check, when he was to lower the landing gear. I did not notice 3 in the green on the lights. I told the student to leave the traffic patter, fly the airplane first and recycle the gear numerous times. Still we had no indication from the lights. The gear pump light showed operation and the airplane lost airspeed with the gear lever down. As a dual safety, we performed the emergency gear extension procedure and still no lights. At that time, we called pit greenville unicom to look from the ground as we flew over at 1000 ft AGL. We were told all 3 were down and we landed without any event. Later it was found that the landing light indicators had shorted out and have been repaired. I also forgot to mention earlier, when we were recycling the gear, we had checked the navigation lights to be off and circuit breakers.
