Narrative:
Being marshalled in at gate, within about 1 ft of being parked, a catering truck backed into our left wing tip. There were no obstacles in our taxi area or within the white lines (all clear). Maintenance was notified and minimum damage was noted. (Scratched lens and broken static wick). The marshal saw the truck backing up, but it was too late. We did not know until after we were parked and leaving the aircraft. More vigilance must be made on all ramps and gates.
