Narrative:

Approximately 250 mi south of sbi VOR while established on ub 753 and level at FL350. We experienced momentary (less than 4 seconds) severe turbulence. We had been transmitting IMC/VMC conditions with a smooth to intermittent light chop throughout cruise. No echoes had appeared on radar before or after this encounter. A PIREP was transmitted to iah center on flight conditions of the encounter. The seatbelt sign had been on before and after encounter with recent PA by the head flight attendant to remain in seats with seat belts secured. Several passenger were standing in line for lavatories in rear of aircraft when encounter occurred and some hit their heads on the ceiling. Flight operations was called to meet the flight with medical personnel.

Title: PAX INJURY DUE TO TURB.

Narrative: APPROX 250 MI S OF SBI VOR WHILE ESTABLISHED ON UB 753 AND LEVEL AT FL350. WE EXPERIENCED MOMENTARY (LESS THAN 4 SECONDS) SEVERE TURB. WE HAD BEEN XMITTING IMC/VMC CONDITIONS WITH A SMOOTH TO INTERMITTENT LIGHT CHOP THROUGHOUT CRUISE. NO ECHOES HAD APPEARED ON RADAR BEFORE OR AFTER THIS ENCOUNTER. A PIREP WAS XMITTED TO IAH CTR ON FLT CONDITIONS OF THE ENCOUNTER. THE SEATBELT SIGN HAD BEEN ON BEFORE AND AFTER ENCOUNTER WITH RECENT PA BY THE HEAD FLT ATTENDANT TO REMAIN IN SEATS WITH SEAT BELTS SECURED. SEVERAL PAX WERE STANDING IN LINE FOR LAVATORIES IN REAR OF ACFT WHEN ENCOUNTER OCCURRED AND SOME HIT THEIR HEADS ON THE CEILING. FLT OPS WAS CALLED TO MEET THE FLT WITH MEDICAL PERSONNEL.
