Narrative:
Received permission from controller to report midfield for a right downwind to runway 33. I reported. Controller responded 'report over lbj.' I reported. I saw a single engine cessna pass overhead about 100 ft above me. I lost sight of the airport. Controller directed me to the airport. Controller requested an 'south' turn to avoid a cessna in front of me. I did a 360 degree to avoid the cessna. Controller claims 'I didn't report midfield for runway 33.' I did. Heavy traffic in the area distraction the controller. City lights obscured the airport. The controller lost sight of me on radar. I lost sight of airport.
