Narrative:
Md-80 scheduled air carrier: deiced prior to takeoff for snow on wings (1ST flight of day). On rotation left engine had a series of compressor stalls. Autothrottles were disengaged and left throttle retarded. Engine ran normally at reduced (approximately 80 percent RPM) power. Diverted to seattle vice destination of lax. Post flight revealed foreign object damage to left engine.
