Narrative:

Air carrier X took off from sna on FMS back bay departure. Assigned 6000 ft and were given traffic at 10 O'clock, 6100 ft unverified. Then we were given a turn from present heading of 120 degrees to 060 degrees. During turn and level off, got TCASII TA followed by RA (climb). Also got visual on the traffic. What happened was that even though departure control called out the traffic they turned us directly toward him and leveled us only 100 ft below his unverified (but actual) altitude. TCASII and our visual sighting prevented a near miss.
