Narrative:

While being vectored for the lda to runway 6 at 5000 ft, we got a 'pull up' on the GPWS. We were in marginal meteorological conditions, wtih fog underneath us and visibility restr due to the fog and the fact that the sun was not up yet. We pulled up immediately upon hearing the GPWS warning and explained to the controller why we had pulled up and that we needed 5500 ft momentarily. Once we could descend back down to 5000 ft, we uneventfully executed the lda and landing.
