Narrative:
Shortly after takeoff, the flight attendant reported air noise from around the L-2 door. Upon inspection it was determined that the door had not sealed properly, although it appeared to be shut normally and all door lights were out. We decided to return to ont. We had no pressurization problems and did not declare an emergency or ask for priority. Upon cycling the door on the ground, it was obvious that the seal had simply not sealed correctly the first time. After cycling the door the seal seated correctly. To our best judgement there was no mechanical problem with the door. We were dispatched and proceeded to stl under a normal operation. I was the flight engineer aboard a B727 being operated as a flight ont-stl.

Title: ACFT EQUIP PROB -- DOOR SEAL.
Narrative: SHORTLY AFTER TKOF, THE FLT ATTENDANT RPTED AIR NOISE FROM AROUND THE L-2 DOOR. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE DOOR HAD NOT SEALED PROPERLY, ALTHOUGH IT APPEARED TO BE SHUT NORMALLY AND ALL DOOR LIGHTS WERE OUT. WE DECIDED TO RETURN TO ONT. WE HAD NO PRESSURIZATION PROBS AND DID NOT DECLARE AN EMER OR ASK FOR PRIORITY. UPON CYCLING THE DOOR ON THE GND, IT WAS OBVIOUS THAT THE SEAL HAD SIMPLY NOT SEALED CORRECTLY THE FIRST TIME. AFTER CYCLING THE DOOR THE SEAL SEATED CORRECTLY. TO OUR BEST JUDGEMENT THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL PROB WITH THE DOOR. WE WERE DISPATCHED AND PROCEEDED TO STL UNDER A NORMAL OP. I WAS THE FE ABOARD A B727 BEING OPERATED AS A FLT ONT-STL.
