Narrative:
Upon completion and landing from lda/DME runway 26L at hnl airport our dc-10-40 aircraft continued to rollout to the end of the runway. Thrust reversers were stowed at about 2500 ft of pavement left. The aircraft (with 1200-1000 ft of runway remaining was being attempted to be stopped from about 40 KTS ground speed . At that point, I told the captain he'd better continue this brake application before we end up in the overrun. Well, we braked too late and ended up on the rain soaked numbers and stripes and crept just into the overrun. A right turn later and 1 taxiway light we were again on the taxiway. Possible factors: with the sun low in the sky, new captain may have thought end of the overrun was end of runway. 95% of the departures of the big jets are from runway 8R, a lot of residue from jet exhaust sits on that pavement, a mixing of water and this residue made surface very slick. New captain, not giving ground speed callouts below 60 KTS, by the first officer, although not required by our operations manual.

Title: WDB OVERRUNS END OF RAIN SLICK RWY DURING LNDG ROLL OUT.
Narrative: UPON COMPLETION AND LNDG FROM LDA/DME RWY 26L AT HNL ARPT OUR DC-10-40 ACFT CONTINUED TO ROLLOUT TO THE END OF THE RWY. THRUST REVERSERS WERE STOWED AT ABOUT 2500 FT OF PAVEMENT L. THE ACFT (WITH 1200-1000 FT OF RWY REMAINING WAS BEING ATTEMPTED TO BE STOPPED FROM ABOUT 40 KTS GND SPD . AT THAT POINT, I TOLD THE CAPT HE'D BETTER CONTINUE THIS BRAKE APPLICATION BEFORE WE END UP IN THE OVERRUN. WELL, WE BRAKED TOO LATE AND ENDED UP ON THE RAIN SOAKED NUMBERS AND STRIPES AND CREPT JUST INTO THE OVERRUN. A R TURN LATER AND 1 TXWY LIGHT WE WERE AGAIN ON THE TXWY. POSSIBLE FACTORS: WITH THE SUN LOW IN THE SKY, NEW CAPT MAY HAVE THOUGHT END OF THE OVERRUN WAS END OF RWY. 95% OF THE DEPS OF THE BIG JETS ARE FROM RWY 8R, A LOT OF RESIDUE FROM JET EXHAUST SITS ON THAT PAVEMENT, A MIXING OF WATER AND THIS RESIDUE MADE SURFACE VERY SLICK. NEW CAPT, NOT GIVING GND SPD CALLOUTS BELOW 60 KTS, BY THE FO, ALTHOUGH NOT REQUIRED BY OUR OPS MANUAL.
