Narrative:
Charter sequence was scheduled for 7 plus 30 hours as follows: lbb-sea-okc-lbb. WX precluded landing charter flight in okc. Diverted to dal. Scheduling/dispatch rerted us dal-okc-lbb by phone. Advised us that 'WX rerte' made us legal to do so. Flew dal-okc with WX hold. After landing in okc our flight time was 10 plus 29 hours. Now told that instead of okc-lbb (from original sequence) that we would go okc-dal. This took us off of original sequence of flts, and out of 'WX rerte' condition. Not sure if this was legal. Total hours for sequence 11:14. Otherwise, normal operations. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the dispatcher/scheduler strikes again. This flight crew was going to be over on time, but they would have been legal if the dispatcher had not rescheduled them. The reporter only mentioned their flight time of 11 hours and 14 mins. Their total duty time must have been very long. This flight crew was flying a B737-300 aircraft. The captain said that they explained to the dispatcher and to the scheduling department the concerns of the flight crew, but they were ordered to fly the trip as rescheduled.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FAR. FLC EXCEEDS 8 IN 24 HR RULE.
Narrative: CHARTER SEQUENCE WAS SCHEDULED FOR 7 PLUS 30 HRS AS FOLLOWS: LBB-SEA-OKC-LBB. WX PRECLUDED LNDG CHARTER FLT IN OKC. DIVERTED TO DAL. SCHEDULING/DISPATCH RERTED US DAL-OKC-LBB BY PHONE. ADVISED US THAT 'WX RERTE' MADE US LEGAL TO DO SO. FLEW DAL-OKC WITH WX HOLD. AFTER LNDG IN OKC OUR FLT TIME WAS 10 PLUS 29 HRS. NOW TOLD THAT INSTEAD OF OKC-LBB (FROM ORIGINAL SEQUENCE) THAT WE WOULD GO OKC-DAL. THIS TOOK US OFF OF ORIGINAL SEQUENCE OF FLTS, AND OUT OF 'WX RERTE' CONDITION. NOT SURE IF THIS WAS LEGAL. TOTAL HRS FOR SEQUENCE 11:14. OTHERWISE, NORMAL OPS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE DISPATCHER/SCHEDULER STRIKES AGAIN. THIS FLC WAS GOING TO BE OVER ON TIME, BUT THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN LEGAL IF THE DISPATCHER HAD NOT RESCHEDULED THEM. THE RPTR ONLY MENTIONED THEIR FLT TIME OF 11 HRS AND 14 MINS. THEIR TOTAL DUTY TIME MUST HAVE BEEN VERY LONG. THIS FLC WAS FLYING A B737-300 ACFT. THE CAPT SAID THAT THEY EXPLAINED TO THE DISPATCHER AND TO THE SCHEDULING DEPT THE CONCERNS OF THE FLC, BUT THEY WERE ORDERED TO FLY THE TRIP AS RESCHEDULED.
