Narrative:
Clearance was right 15 degrees to intercept radial for arrival route, descend to 17000 ft, expecting womac at 13000 ft and 250 KTS. Distracted by altimeter setting at FL180 during descent, all 3 pilots missed 1000 ft call and I had been thinking 13000 ft. Looked at altitude warning indicator passing 16900 ft and saw 17000 ft set in window, asked crew about cleared altitude and received call from center at about the same time. Stopped descent at 16400 ft and was in the process of leveling at 17000 ft when reclred to maintain 16000 ft. Controller was asked if there had been a loss of separation or if this would be a problem. Controller stated no alarm went off and indicated there would be no report. We could not believe that all of us missed our 1000 ft call and this occurrence left us pretty rattled.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ALT OVERSHOOT ON DSCNT.
Narrative: CLRNC WAS R 15 DEGS TO INTERCEPT RADIAL FOR ARR RTE, DSND TO 17000 FT, EXPECTING WOMAC AT 13000 FT AND 250 KTS. DISTRACTED BY ALTIMETER SETTING AT FL180 DURING DSCNT, ALL 3 PLTS MISSED 1000 FT CALL AND I HAD BEEN THINKING 13000 FT. LOOKED AT ALT WARNING INDICATOR PASSING 16900 FT AND SAW 17000 FT SET IN WINDOW, ASKED CREW ABOUT CLRED ALT AND RECEIVED CALL FROM CTR AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME. STOPPED DSCNT AT 16400 FT AND WAS IN THE PROCESS OF LEVELING AT 17000 FT WHEN RECLRED TO MAINTAIN 16000 FT. CTLR WAS ASKED IF THERE HAD BEEN A LOSS OF SEPARATION OR IF THIS WOULD BE A PROB. CTLR STATED NO ALARM WENT OFF AND INDICATED THERE WOULD BE NO RPT. WE COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT ALL OF US MISSED OUR 1000 FT CALL AND THIS OCCURRENCE LEFT US PRETTY RATTLED.
