Narrative:
Cruise flight just east of irq VOR. Cleared sinca 2 arrival to atl. Autoplt inoperative. First officer flying! Left pack inoperative (write up was it would not hold cabin pressure). Right pack trip with subsequent rising cabin pressure. I go to take care of the problem (left pack on, check right pack temperature approximately down 40 degree F, increase pack temperature. Reset pack). Look down at my HSI and see we are 19 mi west of irq. First officer missed the 20 degree turn at irq. I said hey where are we going? Looked at first officer RMI. Both pointers on ADF (only #1 ADF installed). At same time center called to say we overflew irq and turn 40 degrees left to intercept. No traffic conflict. ADF taken off dmi when first officer said cabin pressure reset and working on preflight. (Pointers left in ADF position). For the 3-4 mins I was working on the problem and first officer was hand-flying aircraft we got off the arrival. First officer has very little jet time. I worked the problem because of my concern with cabin altitude and my experience. Probably would not have happened with better aircraft maintenance and certainly with first officer with more training and experience.

Title: MLG FLC FAILS TO TURN AS CLRED ON ARR.
Narrative: CRUISE FLT JUST E OF IRQ VOR. CLRED SINCA 2 ARR TO ATL. AUTOPLT INOP. FO FLYING! L PACK INOP (WRITE UP WAS IT WOULD NOT HOLD CABIN PRESSURE). R PACK TRIP WITH SUBSEQUENT RISING CABIN PRESSURE. I GO TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROB (L PACK ON, CHK R PACK TEMP APPROX DOWN 40 DEG F, INCREASE PACK TEMP. RESET PACK). LOOK DOWN AT MY HSI AND SEE WE ARE 19 MI W OF IRQ. FO MISSED THE 20 DEG TURN AT IRQ. I SAID HEY WHERE ARE WE GOING? LOOKED AT FO RMI. BOTH POINTERS ON ADF (ONLY #1 ADF INSTALLED). AT SAME TIME CTR CALLED TO SAY WE OVERFLEW IRQ AND TURN 40 DEGS L TO INTERCEPT. NO TFC CONFLICT. ADF TAKEN OFF DMI WHEN FO SAID CABIN PRESSURE RESET AND WORKING ON PREFLT. (POINTERS LEFT IN ADF POS). FOR THE 3-4 MINS I WAS WORKING ON THE PROB AND FO WAS HAND-FLYING ACFT WE GOT OFF THE ARR. FO HAS VERY LITTLE JET TIME. I WORKED THE PROB BECAUSE OF MY CONCERN WITH CABIN ALT AND MY EXPERIENCE. PROBABLY WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED WITH BETTER ACFT MAINT AND CERTAINLY WITH FO WITH MORE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE.
