Narrative:

Flight from cvg to phl was full. We put flight attendant's son in the jump seat of a part 121 air carrier. The station agent wrote a letter to the company, which in turn has to disclose this information to the FAA. Flight attendant unable to find baby-sitter for 2 day trip. She brought her 13 yr old son along. Flight was over sold. We put son in jump seat and were on our way. I had discussed this with boarding agent and he didn't seem to have a problem with this. Afterwards he wrote a letter to the company. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states the flight attendant left the aircraft to go to the desk and left her son in the cockpit. Agent wrote the letter as a security violation. The crew was called in to explain, flight attendant was terminated. Captain was given 3 days off and has a letter in his file. All of this was done with company. No FAA follow up. Aircraft was dornier 328. Reporter said this is one of the best, efficient and professional flight attendants that the airline has/had. She had been called in for that flight, it was not her regular schedule.
