Narrative:
Delaying vectors due to stage 3 noise restrs so as to land at XA00 or later. The crew was cleared for the approach and neglected to contact the tower to verify landing clearance. The flight did not acknowledge landing clearance. The crew contacted the tower after landing. Possible reasons: fatigue due to the captain being awake for 26 hours, first officer awake for 31 hours and flight engineer awake for 29 hours, due to the fact that they all commuted to work the day before, operated jfk-day-sea with a 4 hour delay in jfk leading to no rest in day before departure to sea.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: LAND WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: DELAYING VECTORS DUE TO STAGE 3 NOISE RESTRS SO AS TO LAND AT XA00 OR LATER. THE CREW WAS CLRED FOR THE APCH AND NEGLECTED TO CONTACT THE TWR TO VERIFY LNDG CLRNC. THE FLT DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE LNDG CLRNC. THE CREW CONTACTED THE TWR AFTER LNDG. POSSIBLE REASONS: FATIGUE DUE TO THE CAPT BEING AWAKE FOR 26 HRS, FO AWAKE FOR 31 HRS AND FE AWAKE FOR 29 HRS, DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY ALL COMMUTED TO WORK THE DAY BEFORE, OPERATED JFK-DAY-SEA WITH A 4 HR DELAY IN JFK LEADING TO NO REST IN DAY BEFORE DEP TO SEA.
