Narrative:

We had no notice that we were to fly the lda. The ATIS said charted visuals. First word we got was, 'cleared for approach,' and nearly flew through it trying to find frequency of lda. Also, descended through assigned altitude by 400 ft while we were both trying to find frequency and set up for approach. We had no opportunity to brief approach or possible missed. If they are going to use this approach at least put it on the ATIS so we can talk about it. Also, we were expecting a visual approach to runway 28L and then were assigned an instrument approach to runway 28R with no notice. This has happened to me several times in the last few months. Controllers are supposed to advise us of the runway on first contact and bay approach seldom does.

Title: SFO LDA RWY 28R AND BAY ILS RWY 28L APCH EVALUATION.

Narrative: WE HAD NO NOTICE THAT WE WERE TO FLY THE LDA. THE ATIS SAID CHARTED VISUALS. FIRST WORD WE GOT WAS, 'CLRED FOR APCH,' AND NEARLY FLEW THROUGH IT TRYING TO FIND FREQ OF LDA. ALSO, DSNDED THROUGH ASSIGNED ALT BY 400 FT WHILE WE WERE BOTH TRYING TO FIND FREQ AND SET UP FOR APCH. WE HAD NO OPPORTUNITY TO BRIEF APCH OR POSSIBLE MISSED. IF THEY ARE GOING TO USE THIS APCH AT LEAST PUT IT ON THE ATIS SO WE CAN TALK ABOUT IT. ALSO, WE WERE EXPECTING A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 28L AND THEN WERE ASSIGNED AN INST APCH TO RWY 28R WITH NO NOTICE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS. CTLRS ARE SUPPOSED TO ADVISE US OF THE RWY ON FIRST CONTACT AND BAY APCH SELDOM DOES.
