Narrative:
Landed cxl without current medical. Third class had expired by 1 month (my physician passed away and closed his practice). He used to send me notification. Had to get my passenger and myself home. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter flies an H model bonanza. He landed at cxl, not mexicali as stated in his narrative (this has been corrected). A customs agent tried to keep him from flying away with the threat of a fine. The reporter flew on home and now has a new medical certificate. He conferred with the local FAA in idaho and obtained an attorney. He has paid a settlement to the customs service. The FAA has taken the position 'just forget it.' the reporter flies into mexico several times each yr with his employees for fishing trips and is very familiar with the treatment that united states customs can mete out.
