Narrative:
Descent clearance into lax we were issued a clearance to cross hunda intersection at 3500 ft on the localizer. The descent out of 3500 ft began at 14.2 DME vice 12.2 DME (hunda) as charted. A misreading of the chart was caused by a distraction of a B757 ahead of our flight on the same approach and traffic proximity of a B737 off of our right wing on an approach to the parallel runway. We were in VMC during the approach until 1700 ft. At 3200 ft we were told to maintain our current altitude until hunda. It was at this point I realized the mistake. After landing at lax we were told to contact the supervisor at TRACON. Upon arrival at the gate he informed us that we had decreased the vertical separation between the parallel traffic on the north complex and that he had to file a report.

Title: FLC OF AN LTT FAILED TO FOLLOW THE STAR DURING APCH DUE TO STARTING DSCNT PRIOR TO AN ASSIGNED XING FIX.
Narrative: DSCNT CLRNC INTO LAX WE WERE ISSUED A CLRNC TO CROSS HUNDA INTXN AT 3500 FT ON THE LOC. THE DSCNT OUT OF 3500 FT BEGAN AT 14.2 DME VICE 12.2 DME (HUNDA) AS CHARTED. A MISREADING OF THE CHART WAS CAUSED BY A DISTR OF A B757 AHEAD OF OUR FLT ON THE SAME APCH AND TFC PROX OF A B737 OFF OF OUR R WING ON AN APCH TO THE PARALLEL RWY. WE WERE IN VMC DURING THE APCH UNTIL 1700 FT. AT 3200 FT WE WERE TOLD TO MAINTAIN OUR CURRENT ALT UNTIL HUNDA. IT WAS AT THIS POINT I REALIZED THE MISTAKE. AFTER LNDG AT LAX WE WERE TOLD TO CONTACT THE SUPVR AT TRACON. UPON ARR AT THE GATE HE INFORMED US THAT WE HAD DECREASED THE VERT SEPARATION BTWN THE PARALLEL TFC ON THE N COMPLEX AND THAT HE HAD TO FILE A RPT.
