Narrative:

I am currently employed by ZZZ airlines. In the past 18 months(?), I was involved in repairs to B737 chord angles located at BS727 - stringers 19-25, l-hand side. I performed this work according to maintenance manuals and prints. I was informed by the previous shift that we were to delete the installation of 2 fasteners on the chord angle due to lack of access. It was my understanding that engineering had looked at this situation, and we had their approval. During the course of the same repair on a current aircraft (aug/yy/96), it was brought to my attention that this was not an approved variance from the maintenance manual and airworthiness directive note. The situation is now being addressed to correctly follow the maintenance manual.
