Narrative:

We departed lax with a full passenger load including two jump seat riders. After departure I discovered that our jump seat rider was in fact an air carrier X flight attendant. He had a valid jump seat boarding pass and an air carrier identification. I had been distracted as I was verifying his credentials by the gate agent and the crew chief. When I returned my attention to mr X I finished the jump seat briefing but neglected to check his airman certificate. In the future, I will physically hold the jump seat rider's documents until I have checked all necessary documents.
