Narrative:

Departed dials on the expressway visual to runway 31 at lga. We were #4 for landing. We were advised to slow to final approach speed. We configured and the gear indications were green for both mains, red for the nose gear. We elected to recycle the gear and got the same indications. The mechanical nose gear down indicator in the cockpit was extended. The approach was continued to runway 31, so the tower could check for our nose gear landing light. They could not verify the light. We accomplished all the appropriate checklists, and there was no change in the gear indications. We performed another approach to runway 4 and again we could get no solid confirmation of gear indications. We requested a diversion to jfk, briefed the flight attendants (test) and flew an ILS to runway 31R at jfk. Touchdown was normal on the main gear, and we flew the nose of the aircraft to the runway. The aircraft was stopped. The ground evacuate/evacuation checklist was accomplished, and the aircraft was evacuate/evacuationed. The entire crew performed in an outstanding manner.

Narrative: DEPARTED DIALS ON THE EXPRESSWAY VISUAL TO RWY 31 AT LGA. WE WERE #4 FOR LNDG. WE WERE ADVISED TO SLOW TO FINAL APCH SPD. THE APCH WAS CONTINUED TO RWY 31, SO THE TWR COULD CHK FOR OUR NOSE GEAR LNDG LIGHT. THEY COULD NOT VERIFY THE LIGHT. WE ACCOMPLISHED ALL THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS, AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE IN THE GEAR INDICATIONS. WE PERFORMED ANOTHER APCH TO RWY 4 AND AGAIN WE COULD GET NO SOLID CONFIRMATION OF GEAR INDICATIONS. WE REQUESTED A DIVERSION TO JFK, BRIEFED THE FLT ATTENDANTS (TEST) AND FLEW AN ILS TO RWY 31R AT JFK. TOUCHDOWN WAS NORMAL ON THE MAIN GEAR, AND WE FLEW THE NOSE OF THE ACFT TO THE RWY. THE ACFT WAS STOPPED. THE GND EVAC CHKLIST WAS ACCOMPLISHED, AND THE ACFT WAS EVACED. THE ENTIRE CREW PERFORMED IN AN OUTSTANDING MANNER.
