Narrative:

At cruise FL350, #4 engine oil filter light illuminated. Intermittently at first then steadily requiring the shutdown of #4 engine. With 2500 NM to go to tokyo, and 1500 NM to hnl we elected to return to hnl. An emergency declaration was required to obtain a lower altitude en route to hnl after engine shutdown. Hnl arinc and ATC were admirable in their performance.

Title: A WDB ACFT SHUTS DOWN ITS #4 ENG BECAUSE THE OIL FILTER LIGHT COMES ON STEADILY. FLC REVERSES COURSE FROM JAPAN TO RETURN TO HNL AS IT IS CLOSER.

Narrative: AT CRUISE FL350, #4 ENG OIL FILTER LIGHT ILLUMINATED. INTERMITTENTLY AT FIRST THEN STEADILY REQUIRING THE SHUTDOWN OF #4 ENG.
