Narrative:
After routine/visual landing on runway 23 at cle, aircraft cleared runway 23L at taxiway K and contacted ground and was cleared 'to taxi to the gate.' flight proceeded on taxiway left and turned right onto taxiway right to proceed to the gate. As I approached the ramp area I saw out of the corner of my eye an air carrier Y commuter plane very close. I applied maximum braking and turned hard left and the air carrier Y commuter applied maximum brakes. We avoided the taxiing air carrier Y aircraft and proceeded to gate. Ground emphatically apologized and stated it was their fault, that they thought we would give way. We were never informed of the taxiing commuter, to hold short, or to give way thus we did not even know it was taxiing. Quick reflexes and slow taxi speed by both pilots helped avoid an incident.

Title: AN ACR MLG TAXIING TO THE GATE SAW A COMMUTER ACFT OUT OF THE CORNER OF HIS EYE AND BOTH ACFT HIT THEIR BRAKES HARD TO AVOID A COLLISION. RPTR SAYS GND CTLR APOLOGIZED FOR NOT GIVING HIM TFC INFO, BUT THOUGHT THAT THE MLG WOULD GIVE WAY TO THE COMMUTER. SLOW TAXI SPDS HELPED IN PREVENTING A WORSE INCIDENT.
