Narrative:

While performing routine transit check, 2 items were written as discrepancies on left and right main landing gear side stays. The only manual reference for checking wear said to disassemble and measure. The foreman, abc, said to look in maintenance manual for alternate method, none was found. Another foreman, ZZZ, evaluated the wear and signed off the 2 items as ok for continued service. On jan/fri/97, 2 FAA inspectors came to me in the hangar and said they were investigating a 'hotline' tip and asked for my cooperation to show them exactly what it was that I had written up as being worn. This I did. They then asked abc who the other foreman was that signed off the items, he said it was ZZZ. He was then asked to have ZZZ come and talk to them about the event and what manual reference he had used to sign off the items. At this time I was excused from the conversation and do not know of any further events or conversations that took place that day. My concern is for retaliation and harassment from the 2 foreman involved, thinking that I was the one who called the FAA hotline. I did not make the call.

Title: A FK100 WAS DISPATCHED WITH L AND R LNDG GEAR SIDE STAYS WORN BEYOND MAINT MANUAL LIMITS.

Narrative: WHILE PERFORMING ROUTINE TRANSIT CHK, 2 ITEMS WERE WRITTEN AS DISCREPANCIES ON L AND R MAIN LNDG GEAR SIDE STAYS. THE ONLY MANUAL REF FOR CHKING WEAR SAID TO DISASSEMBLE AND MEASURE. THE FOREMAN, ABC, SAID TO LOOK IN MAINT MANUAL FOR ALTERNATE METHOD, NONE WAS FOUND. ANOTHER FOREMAN, ZZZ, EVALUATED THE WEAR AND SIGNED OFF THE 2 ITEMS AS OK FOR CONTINUED SVC. AT THIS TIME I WAS EXCUSED FROM THE CONVERSATION AND DO NOT KNOW OF ANY FURTHER EVENTS OR CONVERSATIONS THAT TOOK PLACE THAT DAY.
