Narrative:
Took off from sna. Flew in controled airspace. Returned to sna. Experienced gear extension problem. Manually extended gear. Verified green extension plus visual of both main wheels. During final stage of landing roll nose gear collapsed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the airplane had a previous history of gear problems, nose gear shimmy, gear won't extend normally and must be extended manually. It was necessary to manually extend the landing gear the day prior to this incident. The reporter does not know if any work was done on the gear after this earlier incident. The reporter has no knowledge of any work done on the landing gear system after the nose gear collapsed. The reporter was contacted by the FAA.
