Narrative:
After crossing runway 17R, ground cleared us up taxiway left to hold short of taxiway Z on taxiway K. We queried this as, facing south we should hold short of taxiway Y facing south. When I turned into the holding area, I mistakenly used taxiway J. It was dark, and I was depending on the first officer to back me up rather than stop and hold up traffic while we sorted this out. My fault, no problem with traffic into the ramp area as we were clear of the taxiway and the entrance to same.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR B727 FLC TAXIED THE WRONG RTE AND ENDED UP WAITING FOR THEIR GATE IN THE WRONG HOLDING SPOT.
Narrative: AFTER XING RWY 17R, GND CLRED US UP TXWY L TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY Z ON TXWY K. WE QUERIED THIS AS, FACING S WE SHOULD HOLD SHORT OF TXWY Y FACING S. WHEN I TURNED INTO THE HOLDING AREA, I MISTAKENLY USED TXWY J. IT WAS DARK, AND I WAS DEPENDING ON THE FO TO BACK ME UP RATHER THAN STOP AND HOLD UP TFC WHILE WE SORTED THIS OUT. MY FAULT, NO PROB WITH TFC INTO THE RAMP AREA AS WE WERE CLR OF THE TXWY AND THE ENTRANCE TO SAME.
