Narrative:
ML5 on downwind following a king air 1/2 mi final and a jetstream on wide right base. I told ML5 he was #3 following a jetstream on a wide right base. ML5 said he had jetstream in sight. I instructed him to follow the jetstream. ML5 then turned directly into the jetstream. Jetstream took evasive action. ML5 had wrong aircraft, but aircraft traffic were not close. King air was on short final, jetstream was a wide right base.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: TWR CTLR ISSUED ML5 TFC PATTERN INSTRUCTIONS TO FOLLOW BA31 ON WIDE BASE LEG. ML5 TURNED BASE LEG IN FRONT OF THE BA31, APPARENTLY INADVERTENTLY FOLLOWING A BE90 ON SHORT FINAL, CAUSING THE BA31 TO TAKE AN EVASIVE MANEUVER AWAY FROM THE ML5.
