Narrative:
While on approach, after descending to visual conditions (from moderate to severe icing conditions 5000-7000 ft), stall stick shakers activated at 145 KTS with flaps/slats 40 degrees. After 'firewall power' was applied, we attempted to establish a shallow climb, but shakers activated again. Aircraft did not feel like it was in a stall condition. It flew level ok with an increased speed. A stall indicator failure came on after 5 seconds.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A DC9-30 EXPERIENCES A STALL WARNING, STICK SHAKER EVENT ON APCH TO PIT ARPT. IT HAD PREVIOUSLY ENCOUNTERED MODERATE TO SEVERE ICING. AFTER SOME PWR AND ACFT PITCH ADJUSTMENTS, THE STALL WARNING FAIL LIGHT CAME ON.
Narrative: WHILE ON APCH, AFTER DSNDING TO VISUAL CONDITIONS (FROM MODERATE TO SEVERE ICING CONDITIONS 5000-7000 FT), STALL STICK SHAKERS ACTIVATED AT 145 KTS WITH FLAPS/SLATS 40 DEGS. AFTER 'FIREWALL PWR' WAS APPLIED, WE ATTEMPTED TO ESTABLISH A SHALLOW CLB, BUT SHAKERS ACTIVATED AGAIN. ACFT DID NOT FEEL LIKE IT WAS IN A STALL CONDITION. IT FLEW LEVEL OK WITH AN INCREASED SPD. A STALL INDICATOR FAILURE CAME ON AFTER 5 SECONDS.
