Narrative:
During the landing roll, while reversing the engines the tailcone of the aircraft fell off onto the runway. The landing was a normal landing. The tailcone missing/annunciator system was meled as inoperative. The logbook and flight release showed this information, and all required inspections, and paperwork were completed. The MEL was entered in the logbook jan/xx/98, at tus. This MEL required correction within 2 flight days, and corrective maintenance was scheduled for jan/xy/98 at cmh. The MEL book showed that, the tailcone light would remain on. I believe at some point prior to our landing, the tailcone annunciator light became valid. The landing was normal and should not have caused a properly attached tailcone to fall off. Corrective actions possibilities could include, the MEL to require tailcone inspection before each takeoff, or eliminate completely the MEL for the tailcone missing/annunciator system.

Title: MLG ACFT WITH MEL ITEM DEFERRED, TAILCONE ANNUNCIATOR SYS. TAILCONE FELL OFF ONTO RWY AFTER LNDG.
Narrative: DURING THE LNDG ROLL, WHILE REVERSING THE ENGS THE TAILCONE OF THE ACFT FELL OFF ONTO THE RWY. THE LNDG WAS A NORMAL LNDG. THE TAILCONE MISSING/ANNUNCIATOR SYS WAS MELED AS INOP. THE LOGBOOK AND FLT RELEASE SHOWED THIS INFO, AND ALL REQUIRED INSPECTIONS, AND PAPERWORK WERE COMPLETED. THE MEL WAS ENTERED IN THE LOGBOOK JAN/XX/98, AT TUS. THIS MEL REQUIRED CORRECTION WITHIN 2 FLT DAYS, AND CORRECTIVE MAINT WAS SCHEDULED FOR JAN/XY/98 AT CMH. THE MEL BOOK SHOWED THAT, THE TAILCONE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON. I BELIEVE AT SOME POINT PRIOR TO OUR LNDG, THE TAILCONE ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT BECAME VALID. THE LNDG WAS NORMAL AND SHOULD NOT HAVE CAUSED A PROPERLY ATTACHED TAILCONE TO FALL OFF. CORRECTIVE ACTIONS POSSIBILITIES COULD INCLUDE, THE MEL TO REQUIRE TAILCONE INSPECTION BEFORE EACH TKOF, OR ELIMINATE COMPLETELY THE MEL FOR THE TAILCONE MISSING/ANNUNCIATOR SYS.
