Narrative:

Aircraft landed approximately 1500 pounds over certified landing weight. This was not realized until after parking when ACARS printer printed the fact and saying we needed an aircraft logbook write-up. We contacted maintenance and they came out and said write-up was not necessary. Later, chief pilot was informed and said write-up was required. We seemed to have overlooked the landing weight limitation when setting our landing speeds. Aircraft was dispatched with extra fuel for an MEL of 1 inoperative wing fuel pump. Supplemental information from acn 396298: this captain overlooked and forgot the requirement to make a write-up in the aircraft logbook. Should have delayed the outbound flight to ensure all paperwork was totally complete.
