Narrative:
Approach advised us of pwk airport's position and we called what appeared to be pwk airport in sight and we were cleared for the visual approach and told to switch to advisory frequency. The airport we had in sight was not pwk but a closed airport approximately 3 NM southeast of pwk. The runway we were going to use at pwk was runway 34 and there are no approach aids to that runway. As we got closer I realized we were not at pwk and looked at the map display on our EFIS and saw we were approximately 3 NM southeast of pwk. At this time we climbed to 1500 ft MSL and proceeded to pwk for a visual approach to runway 34. Pilots should use all information available to them. Even with our highly automated cockpit and map display we still headed for the wrong place. Even if you see an airport, use all the resources you have to verify that you are in the right place.

Title: A LR60 MAKES AN APCH TO THE CLOSED NAVAL AIR STATION AT GLENVIEW, THINKING THAT IT IS PWK WHICH WAS ANOTHER 4-5 MI NW OF THE CLOSED ARPT. RPTR CITES LACK OF NAVAIDS FOR AN APCH FROM THE S DURING A VISUAL APCH.
Narrative: APCH ADVISED US OF PWK ARPT'S POSITION AND WE CALLED WHAT APPEARED TO BE PWK ARPT IN SIGHT AND WE WERE CLRED FOR THE VISUAL APCH AND TOLD TO SWITCH TO ADVISORY FREQ. THE ARPT WE HAD IN SIGHT WAS NOT PWK BUT A CLOSED ARPT APPROX 3 NM SE OF PWK. THE RWY WE WERE GOING TO USE AT PWK WAS RWY 34 AND THERE ARE NO APCH AIDS TO THAT RWY. AS WE GOT CLOSER I REALIZED WE WERE NOT AT PWK AND LOOKED AT THE MAP DISPLAY ON OUR EFIS AND SAW WE WERE APPROX 3 NM SE OF PWK. AT THIS TIME WE CLBED TO 1500 FT MSL AND PROCEEDED TO PWK FOR A VISUAL APCH TO RWY 34. PLTS SHOULD USE ALL INFO AVAILABLE TO THEM. EVEN WITH OUR HIGHLY AUTOMATED COCKPIT AND MAP DISPLAY WE STILL HEADED FOR THE WRONG PLACE. EVEN IF YOU SEE AN ARPT, USE ALL THE RESOURCES YOU HAVE TO VERIFY THAT YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE.
