Narrative:

During climb passing FL190, left oil strainer clogging annunciator illuminated, accompanied by a low frequency vibration/rumble. Followed operating manual procedures, and accomplished precautionary engine shutdown. Declared an emergency and diverted back to ont, landing without incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter said the aircraft was an MD80 and the engines were P&west JT8D-209 engines. The reporter said the exact cause of the engine failure was not reported by maintenance but it was an engine change.

Narrative: DURING CLB PASSING FL190, L OIL STRAINER CLOGGING ANNUNCIATOR ILLUMINATED, ACCOMPANIED BY A LOW FREQ VIBRATION/RUMBLE. THE RPTR SAID THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE ENG FAILURE WAS NOT RPTED BY MAINT BUT IT WAS AN ENG CHANGE.
