Narrative:
One fuel pump was inoperative and deferred. We carried 5000 pounds extra fuel for it per MEL. 2ND pump (in another track) failed during climb. MEL said that one carried an 8900 pound penalty in unusable fuel, but that most of that (an unspecified amount) would be usable in level flight. WX at destination was VFR and we were landing with about 30000 pounds fuel so we continued. Abnormal checklist had no guidance on fuel remaining criteria, so I just considered it to be a cut into our reserve fuel. P.south. This report is simply cya in case my scummy company tries to stick us with non- disclosure. We did write it up on arrival.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B747-100 WAS DISPATCHED WITH A BOOST PUMP INOP AND DEFERRED AND WHILE ON CLBOUT ANOTHER TANK PUMP FAILED AND THE FUEL BOARDED DID NOT MEET THE MEL REQUIREMENTS FOR USABLE FUEL FOR 2 PUMPS INOP.
Narrative: ONE FUEL PUMP WAS INOP AND DEFERRED. WE CARRIED 5000 LBS EXTRA FUEL FOR IT PER MEL. 2ND PUMP (IN ANOTHER TRACK) FAILED DURING CLB. MEL SAID THAT ONE CARRIED AN 8900 LB PENALTY IN UNUSABLE FUEL, BUT THAT MOST OF THAT (AN UNSPECIFIED AMOUNT) WOULD BE USABLE IN LEVEL FLT. WX AT DEST WAS VFR AND WE WERE LNDG WITH ABOUT 30000 LBS FUEL SO WE CONTINUED. ABNORMAL CHKLIST HAD NO GUIDANCE ON FUEL REMAINING CRITERIA, SO I JUST CONSIDERED IT TO BE A CUT INTO OUR RESERVE FUEL. P.S. THIS RPT IS SIMPLY CYA IN CASE MY SCUMMY COMPANY TRIES TO STICK US WITH NON- DISCLOSURE. WE DID WRITE IT UP ON ARR.
