Narrative:
During routine through-flight inspection of aircraft xyz I found the right outboard main landing gear tire approaching tread wear limits. I made a logbook entry on log page #zyzy to replace the tire/wheel assembly within 12 lndgs per air carrier standard practices manual. I removed the maintenance copy of the log page. I dispatched the aircraft. I returned to the maintenance office to enter this item in the aircraft maintenance computer. I found that I had mistakenly wrote the words 'left main landing gear.' I have no explanation for why I wrote 'left' when meant 'right.' I have been working on aircraft for 20 yrs. I know aircraft right from left. I called air carrier aircraft maintenance planning and told them about my error. I called the station where the aircraft would receive overnight maintenance check and told them about my logbook error. I corrected the copy of the log page that I had per air carrier maintenance policies procedures manual. The only information that I can add is that I was standing on the loading bridge (jetway) when I was making this entry in the logbook. This was about 8 mins before departure.

Title: A B737-200 WAS DISPATCHED WITH AN INCORRECT LOG ITEM ENTERED IN ERROR.
Narrative: DURING ROUTINE THROUGH-FLT INSPECTION OF ACFT XYZ I FOUND THE R OUTBOARD MAIN LNDG GEAR TIRE APCHING TREAD WEAR LIMITS. I MADE A LOGBOOK ENTRY ON LOG PAGE #ZYZY TO REPLACE THE TIRE/WHEEL ASSEMBLY WITHIN 12 LNDGS PER ACR STANDARD PRACTICES MANUAL. I REMOVED THE MAINT COPY OF THE LOG PAGE. I DISPATCHED THE ACFT. I RETURNED TO THE MAINT OFFICE TO ENTER THIS ITEM IN THE ACFT MAINT COMPUTER. I FOUND THAT I HAD MISTAKENLY WROTE THE WORDS 'L MAIN LNDG GEAR.' I HAVE NO EXPLANATION FOR WHY I WROTE 'L' WHEN MEANT 'R.' I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON ACFT FOR 20 YRS. I KNOW ACFT R FROM L. I CALLED ACR ACFT MAINT PLANNING AND TOLD THEM ABOUT MY ERROR. I CALLED THE STATION WHERE THE ACFT WOULD RECEIVE OVERNIGHT MAINT CHK AND TOLD THEM ABOUT MY LOGBOOK ERROR. I CORRECTED THE COPY OF THE LOG PAGE THAT I HAD PER ACR MAINT POLICIES PROCS MANUAL. THE ONLY INFO THAT I CAN ADD IS THAT I WAS STANDING ON THE LOADING BRIDGE (JETWAY) WHEN I WAS MAKING THIS ENTRY IN THE LOGBOOK. THIS WAS ABOUT 8 MINS BEFORE DEP.
