Narrative:
IOE in progress. Captain/student was flying. Deviating around WX, climbing to FL220. I called out FL210 for FL220 and observed the student level off at the assigned altitude. Moments later ATC called us with an extensive reroute. As I was examining the chart to determine the effect on our fuel planning, I heard the altitude alert go off and noticed the airplane climbing through 300 ft above the assigned altitude. The student apparently had been distracted by the new clearance and failed to maintain the assigned altitude. Corrective action was immediately applied and we returned to FL220 without incident. Supplemental information from acn 409291: after several reroutes during climb around WX, missed leveloff at FL220. Immediately returned to FL220 after going 300 ft high. No aircraft in area and no comment from ATC.

Title: B727, CREW OVERSHOT THEIR CLRED ALT BY 300 FT.
Narrative: IOE IN PROGRESS. CAPT/STUDENT WAS FLYING. DEVIATING AROUND WX, CLBING TO FL220. I CALLED OUT FL210 FOR FL220 AND OBSERVED THE STUDENT LEVEL OFF AT THE ASSIGNED ALT. MOMENTS LATER ATC CALLED US WITH AN EXTENSIVE REROUTE. AS I WAS EXAMINING THE CHART TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT ON OUR FUEL PLANNING, I HEARD THE ALT ALERT GO OFF AND NOTICED THE AIRPLANE CLBING THROUGH 300 FT ABOVE THE ASSIGNED ALT. THE STUDENT APPARENTLY HAD BEEN DISTRACTED BY THE NEW CLRNC AND FAILED TO MAINTAIN THE ASSIGNED ALT. CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS IMMEDIATELY APPLIED AND WE RETURNED TO FL220 WITHOUT INCIDENT. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 409291: AFTER SEVERAL REROUTES DURING CLB AROUND WX, MISSED LEVELOFF AT FL220. IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO FL220 AFTER GOING 300 FT HIGH. NO ACFT IN AREA AND NO COMMENT FROM ATC.
