Narrative:

While flying scheduled trips in alaska, my crew accidentally exceeded 24 hours time in a 72 hour period. Jul/thu/98, was the date of the occurrence. On a flight from king salmon, ak, to galena, ak, my crew exceeded the 24 hour/72 hour by 11 mins. We were not aware of it at the time and our company did not notify us of the problem. We flew another part 121 leg from galena to elmendorf AFB, ak, and a part 91 repositioning flight to anchorage international. Our company notified us of the possible transgression the next day, jul/fri/98. I had been tracking our block time and did not think we would have a problem. Only one of the calendar days had exceeded 8 hours block time, but when back up 72 hours (a span covering 19 separate flts) we did exceed the limit. The company computer tracking block times did not flag it soon enough to notify us to take the mandatory 18 hours off. We did have over 24 hours off after the incident (jul/thu/98, off jul/fri/98). The corrective action is better crew monitoring of the intense summer flying in alaska, manually by the crew and computerized by the company. The company did declare our transgression.
