Narrative:

A recent ground incident by another pilot on our airline reminded me that 'there but for the grace of god go I.' the taxiway lighting and general illumination of the txwys outside this ramp area is poor, especially coming off the near daylight illumination of the ramp area. There is also a visual illusion masking a ditch between parallel txwys B and C, when using the nose taxi light. We saw the ditch at the last min prior to reaching it, because of an alert copilot and a passing aircraft whose taxi lights did illuminate it. Due to the use of dark material on all surfaces in las, lighting must be upgraded, markings improved, and hazards illuminated.
