Narrative:
ATC facility: sju center. Location: 70 NM north sxm. While descending into sxm, deviated right of track because of severe thunderstorms. Sju ATC advised me that I needed to make a turn back to the left to avoid military airspace. I was unable to turn left because of thunderstorms, so exercised my emergency authority/authorized and declared an emergency. Was able to turn back to the left after approximately 12 mi.
