Narrative:

On climb out of lga, just after retracting the flaps, the 'a' system hydraulic failed. The flight control lights came on and the 'a' system pumps were turned off. An emergency was declared, the cabin was prepared for landing, and a landing was made at ewr, after reading and performing the appropriate checklists.

Title: B727 CREW RETURNS TO LGA AFTER LOSING 'A' HYD SYS.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT OF LGA, JUST AFTER RETRACTING THE FLAPS, THE 'A' SYS HYD FAILED. THE FLT CTL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE 'A' SYS PUMPS WERE TURNED OFF. AN EMER WAS DECLARED, THE CABIN WAS PREPARED FOR LNDG, AND A LNDG WAS MADE AT EWR, AFTER READING AND PERFORMING THE APPROPRIATE CHKLISTS.
