Narrative:
On a vector direct paine VOR, we passed the VOR and were to intercept the 329 degree radial for the acord 6 arrival (vancouver, back course). Having missed the radial, we turned to a heading of 310 degrees to reintercept the 329 degree radial from the east. ATC asked us if we had turned west and instructed us to both descend to 10000 ft and turn right to 050 degrees. We complied with this clearance. Upon asking the controller, we were told that he showed us having turned to the west and into the path of another aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR'S ACFT OVERSHOT THE VOR. THEY MADE A CORRECTION TO REINTERCEPT THE 329 DEG RADIAL N OF THE VOR. CTR CTLR ADVISED THEY HAD OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC ON THEIR RTE OF FLT AT THE SAME ALT. CTLR ISSUED A DSCNT AND A NE HDG.
Narrative: ON A VECTOR DIRECT PAINE VOR, WE PASSED THE VOR AND WERE TO INTERCEPT THE 329 DEG RADIAL FOR THE ACORD 6 ARR (VANCOUVER, BC). HAVING MISSED THE RADIAL, WE TURNED TO A HDG OF 310 DEGS TO REINTERCEPT THE 329 DEG RADIAL FROM THE E. ATC ASKED US IF WE HAD TURNED W AND INSTRUCTED US TO BOTH DSND TO 10000 FT AND TURN R TO 050 DEGS. WE COMPLIED WITH THIS CLRNC. UPON ASKING THE CTLR, WE WERE TOLD THAT HE SHOWED US HAVING TURNED TO THE W AND INTO THE PATH OF ANOTHER ACFT.
