Narrative:

Both aircraft were on opposite bases and did not have each other in sight. ATC was very busy and for the last several mins someone was inadvertently on tower frequency 'walking' over important xmissions. 3 aircraft were close in 3/4 mi to the approach end of runway 36. Contributing factors would be untimely transmission blockage explaining exactly which aircraft was to land first. Corrective action: sharp left turn, then a go around.
