Narrative:
At stl taxiing northwest onto taxiway a at taxiway B1. Another aircraft started moving from the holding area 'ag' towards the ramp and turns his taxi light on. Ground told us to hold at taxiway B for traffic. I called traffic in sight, assuming ground meant traffic at taxiway G. At this time, our nose was in the middle of the intersection at taxiway B2 and we were stopping. Heretofore unseen traffic crossing runway 30L at taxiway B blasts us with his taxi lights as we slow and cross in front of him. Ground said we were to hold short of taxiway B2. I only heard the taxiway B, not taxiway B2. Did not see taxiway designator for taxiway B, nor did I see taxiway B crossing traffic until he turned his lights on. Recommend that moving traffic turn lights on early so they are more visible. More familiarity with stl ground traffic and taxiway patterns would also be a plus. We continue to maximize our vigilance and learn from these sits in order to minimize these occurrences in the future.

Title: A TAXIING S80 CROSSES IN FRONT OF ANOTHER TAXIING ACFT WHEN HE WAS SUPPOSED TO HOLD SHORT FOR THAT ACFT. A NIGHT OP AT STL, MO.
Narrative: AT STL TAXIING NW ONTO TXWY A AT TXWY B1. ANOTHER ACFT STARTED MOVING FROM THE HOLDING AREA 'AG' TOWARDS THE RAMP AND TURNS HIS TAXI LIGHT ON. GND TOLD US TO HOLD AT TXWY B FOR TFC. I CALLED TFC IN SIGHT, ASSUMING GND MEANT TFC AT TXWY G. AT THIS TIME, OUR NOSE WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTXN AT TXWY B2 AND WE WERE STOPPING.
