Narrative:
Cruising level at 4500 ft MSL on course 290 degrees. Other aircraft, a fixed gear, high wing cessna, possibly a C182 or a C206, crossed ahead, close in front right to left, in a slight descending left turn. My evasive action was reflexive, a steep right bank, and the other aircraft passed down my left side. Other aircraft took no evasive action and did not appear to see me. Believe if I had not taken evasive action, collision would not have occurred, but it would have been close. Cause of problem: I was concentrating my attention ahead for possible opposite direction traffic and did not see the other aircraft approaching from my extreme right side. Since the other aircraft was crossing from right to left, although maneuvering, he had the right-of-way and I should have been more vigilant.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: NMAC BTWN AN SEL SMA IN LEVEL FLT AT 4500 FT AND AN SEL CESSNA XING FROM R TO L IN A DSNDING L TURN. RPTR MADE A STEEP R BANK TO ASSURE SEPARATION.
Narrative: CRUISING LEVEL AT 4500 FT MSL ON COURSE 290 DEGS. OTHER ACFT, A FIXED GEAR, HIGH WING CESSNA, POSSIBLY A C182 OR A C206, CROSSED AHEAD, CLOSE IN FRONT R TO L, IN A SLIGHT DSNDING L TURN. MY EVASIVE ACTION WAS REFLEXIVE, A STEEP R BANK, AND THE OTHER ACFT PASSED DOWN MY L SIDE. OTHER ACFT TOOK NO EVASIVE ACTION AND DID NOT APPEAR TO SEE ME. BELIEVE IF I HAD NOT TAKEN EVASIVE ACTION, COLLISION WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED, BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN CLOSE. CAUSE OF PROB: I WAS CONCENTRATING MY ATTN AHEAD FOR POSSIBLE OPPOSITE DIRECTION TFC AND DID NOT SEE THE OTHER ACFT APCHING FROM MY EXTREME R SIDE. SINCE THE OTHER ACFT WAS XING FROM R TO L, ALTHOUGH MANEUVERING, HE HAD THE RIGHT-OF-WAY AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE VIGILANT.
