Narrative:
I work as a flight instructor. A student flew one of the training aircraft to des moines to take his CFI exams and check ride. An FAA inspector examined the aircraft logbooks and found an error in the ELT function test entry which is required annually. The student was required to obtain a ferry permit to fly the aircraft home. The FAA inspector was quoted as saying he would pursue some disciplinary action against all those who had flown the aircraft with the erroneous ELT entry. That includes me, since I have instructed in that aircraft for the last 6 weeks. This problem is all about the wording for the ELT entry. It is not something any student nor CFI would have been able to discern.
