Narrative:
Location: vkz 018 degree radial south of heatt. As we descended through 10800 ft on the heatt arrival, we received a TA. I went to the 5 mi scale and observed a target at approximately 12:30 position, 100 ft below our altitude. We then received an RA to climb. The first officer initiated a climb as I continued to look for the target. I spotted 1 GA aircraft as the first officer complied with the 1500-1800 FPM climb RA. At our apex we were 400 ft above the target. As the target passed, we were able to discern 4 GA aircraft in formation. I advised ATC of our altitude deviation and asked him if he had seen the target. He initially stated that he had not and then said that he did see them after I had called. We descended and landed without incident.
